BREAD
History of BREAD
The BREAD Group was set up by the Church
Council so that they could look at the feasibility of updating the church
premises and such. This is not the first scheme to do this though. You can
read about the previous scheme here
The group has regular open meetings
that are well attended. The minutes of the meetings are also available generally to all church goers.
After many months of discussing different options the BREAD group recommended that the most practical course of
action was to look into a 'full rebuild' of the premises. This was done with the help of a firm of architects.
The plans were made available to the church members. An alternative scheme was requested and another firm of architects
were called in to prepare a feasibility study. The new plans, although not by any means final, were greeted with a more
favourable response.
The Church Council on 18th June 2002 passed the following resoloution:
'That Bingham Methodist Church proceeds with a complete rebuild scheme along the lines of the
presentation made by Allan Joyce at the Open Church Meeting on 19 May 2002'. Subsequently, Allan Joyce Architects were appointed, plans developed and agreed and the scheme received planning permission from Rushcliffe Borough Council in 2005.
Since then, the original Bread Group has spread its wings, the momentum has built and the pace of activity increased sharply. Three work streams, finance, design and publicity/PR have been meeting regularly and have drawn on experience and expertise from the wider community. These committees report to the Steering Group made up of talented professionals with the skills and knowledge to achieve a successful outcome. At the top of this pyramid is the Project Co-ordinator, Rob Bailey, tasked with the job of driving the scheme forward and the lynch-pin for communication. The original Bread Group still retains overall management control.
